January 11, Noon to 3:00 p.m., Portside, Kimball Hall: MAKING A DIFFERENCE:
Giving Back to Your Community
This presentation, led by Patricia Foden, will include a description of EnCorps Leadership Corps, a program of the University of Maine Center on Aging, in partnership with the Maine Community Foundation. EnCorps provides workshops and networking opportunities to help Maine seniors maximize involvement in the community, focusing in the areas of environmental stewardship, grassroots leadership, and improving the quality of life for all community residents. A portion of the program will focus on the work of the Machias Area Literary Team, working to improve family literacy in the greater Machias area. Jackie Lowe will discuss her involvement in the Literacy Program. Additionally, Wendy Harrington, Director of Service Programs at the Maine Seacoast Mission in Cherryfield, will discuss her involvement in "Neighbors Care," a volunteer organization that works on "making a difference" in her community.
